"Soyuz-2" Launched "Meridian"» Science, Technology and Internet [Dec 25, 2006] |
Russian launcher "Soyuz-2" has orbited the new Russian satellite "Meridian". The new upgraded rocket-launcher was the one to bring from Cosmodrome Plesetsk into target orbit the first Russian telecommunication satellite from the "Meridian" series.
Soyuz-2, with the help of Block D (the upper stage of Russian rockets) called "Fregat", successfully launched the cosmic device "Meridian" into the target orbit. The ground control keeps a continuous and stable connection with the satellite. All airborne systems are running swimmingly (just like most Russian cosmic devices).
"Meridian" is a new Russian development. This new generation telecommunication satellite was launched for the first time and it is to show the remarkable abilities of Russian developers in the field of new technologies.
"Meridian" was created for the purpose of providing connection between various sea crafts and ice spying planes in the Northern seaway region with ground control stations. Thus it will expand the satellite stations network in the Northern regions of Siberia and Far East.
The cosmic rocket complex "Soyuz-2" was created on demand of the Russian Ministry of Defense and "Roscosmos". The device is meant for independent launches into outer space. This implies that Russian cosmic programs will perform their missions easier, concerning first of all military missions.
The three-step rocket launcher of the middle class was designed for launching military cosmic equipment as well as devices meant for social and national purposes.
During the modernization process of "Soyuz-2" the engineers upgraded its engines of all steps of the rocket, which allowed to significantly increase the weight of the cargo and the sizes of the cosmic objects that are to be brought into outer space. Russian engineers also developed a new digital system control as well as new telemetry systems.
The use of "Meridian" satellites at highly elliptical orbits will increase the exploitation and technical and economic characteristics of the existing means of communication. This is due to the expansion of the frequency range use.
At the same time the use of the new generation satellites will increase the active existence on the orbit of the devices and their safety indexes. "Meridian" is to replace the currently used communication satellites and will supplement the already existent telecommunication system based on such satellites as "Gorizont" and "Express-A".
